Munk Learns to Ask for Help… And So Can Your Child

“Munk” is Little Owl’s chipmunk friend. He is busy, hard working, and resourceful.

He doesn’t have a lot of time to play, as he is always hunting for food to store for the winter. Munk learns that everyone in the forest is not to be trusted. So he depends on Little Owl’s friendship to help him solve a problem. As a result, he learns it is okay to ask others for help!

Munk needed help finding who was stealing his food.  He couldn’t figure it out on his own so he asked Little Owl for her help!  Like a good friend, Little Owl and her forest friends jump in to help Munk solve his mystery.

Using our words and asking for help is something that can be hard for some children.  Some children are very strong willed. Some have a fierce sense of independence. But there will come a time when there is something that they just can’t do on their own.

We need to teach our children that it is OKAY to ask for help when they need it.  As our children age they are going to come into contact with things that are just too big for them to handle on their own.  It may start with getting them a snack because they can’t do it on their own. Then maybe help with math homework or a project.  But when something serious does arise… we want them to be prepared and know they can ask for help from someone they trust just like Munk did.

It’s important to instill this important principle in them at a young age.  If we teach them it’s okay to ask for help when you need it like Munk does, then they will be more comfortable coming to you as a preteen and teenager to ask for help.  Communication in all family dynamics is so important. Asking for help is just part of that communication.
